Kinetic and Furnace Filmworks win Silver ADDY award!

We are really excited to announce that “Get inspired with Home Science Tools” won silver at the ADDY award for best internet commercial! The ad was created with the awesome team at Kinetic Marketing, and evoking the heightened sense of wonder that kids can feel exploring the world around them. 

The American Advertising Awards (aka ADDYs) is a nationwide competition by the American Advertising Federation to highlight and reward advertising creativity and excellence.

Like everything in film and video, this was a team effort with great writing, music, and scene selection. We had a great time collaborating with the Kinetic crew, and look forward to creating more amazing work with them in the future.

 

Furnace Filmworks 2017 Demo Reel

A look back at some of the projects we've loved to film.

2016 was a great year for us, but editing this demo really brought back the memories of all of the amazing people we've worked with and stories we've told. Shooting days haven't always gone smoothly, but we got the job done every time. The projects where wind and cold have sapped the feeling from our fingers or we've crashed a drone, in the end, have been some of the most rewarding. 

This demo is a tribute to our incredible clients. Thank you for letting us tell your stories. We look forward to even more exciting work in 2017!

Crafting a Great Brand Video from Stock Footage

I’ve been shooting stock footage for years. Not only does it bring in a few dollars, it comes in handy on a lot of my projects. A field of grain that I happened to film last year became the “iconic” image of Montana agriculture without me having to schedule an extra shoot (and, consequently, charge the client.)

Stock footage libraries have expanded to cover almost any type of clip you could want. In fact, a few weeks ago, I edited a whole video from nothing but footage downloaded from ShutterStock (one of the agencies that represents my work.) I love how it turned out, and it really showed me the power of using stock footage to tell a story.

Authentically Fun - Filming Bottega Clothing

Filming the Bottega Girls is as fun as it looks.

So many of our projects are internal corporate videos, or are used in campaigns that aren't easy to view online. We are extremely pleased to able to showcase one of our most visually arresting pieces: Bottega Clothing's branding centerpiece. 

Katie Cline Ellis, Bottega's owner, came to us because she wanted a video that didn't just show the clothing. She wanted to tell the story of how Bottega came to be, and why it's so different from other stores. She wanted a film that showed Bottega's culture. 

Authenticity has become such a buzzword lately that I hardly like to even utter it. But authenticity is important for a reason. It's what people can connect with. And they know when something isn't authentic. The Bottega story rings true because the people in this video aren't paid talent. We wanted the same people you might see when you walk into the store. We filmed the people living the culture every day when they help customers look their best. 

Lucky for us, part of the Bottega culture is having fun. Not only does this video look great, but it was a blast to shoot. Thank you Katie and the rest of the Bottega Girls for letting us tell your stories!
